It was somewhat 15 years back that internet service was introduced in India for the very first time. In the year 1995-1996, the first internet services were introduced on the commercial scale by VSNL. Today, after 15 years we find that India has become an astonishingly connected country via internet. Almost all banks, business activities, railway reservation, air reservation, govt. departments databases are all connected by means of internet.

.The very first access to www (World Wide Web) in India was given to the users through C-Web by National Informatics Centre (NIC) in the year 1995.

.However, the free e-mail facility to the users became available a year after, that is in 1996, when Sabeer Bhatia launched his free email service known as Hotmail. Hotmail became so popular that throughout the world that it had millions of subscribers. Later Hotmail was bought by Microsoft Inc.

.Gradually internet banking started gaining popularity in Indian market and in the year 1998 Citi Bank in launched the internet banking facility for the very first time in Bangalore city.

.Today we have almost all reputed schools, colleges and universities having their own websites and informing students about academics, fee structure, facilities, updates etc. on their websites. 10-12 years back it was very difficult and expensive though. However, in the year 1999, Delhi public School in R.K.Puram became the first school in India to go online by egurucool.com.
