India’s First and Most in Commonwealth Games!

1.India participated for the very first time in Commonwealth Games in the year 1934 held in Hamilton. India was able to get only one bronze medal and got the 12th position overall.

2.Independent India participated in the Commonwealth Games for the very first time in 1954 held in Vancouver. Unfortunately, India was not able to win any medal in these games.

3.The first medal for India was won in Commonwealth Games by Rashid Anwar in 1934 Commonwealth Games. Rashid Anwar won the bronze medal in wrestling.

4. The very first gold medal for India in Commonwealth Games was won by ‘Flying Sikh’, Milkha Singh in the 1958 Commonwealth Games. Milkha Singh won the gold medal in 400 metre race.

5.It was in the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester that India bagged the maximum medals. India won total 69 medals in Commonwealth Games, 2002 with 30 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 17 bronze medals. Also, India got the best position ever in Commonwealth Games, 2002 and was placed at 4th place.

6.Samresh Jang, a fantastic shooter from India who has won the maximum medals in Commonwealth Games. Samresh Jang has won 7 medals in Commonwealth Games out of which 5 were gold medals.
