Police stations, hospitals are two such places for which we pray from God to never have a visit there in life. By that we mean never getting ill or never getting involved in a crime. But, unlike other police stations, if we have a police station with full facilities for the visitors, victims and other grief-stricken people, it would definitely be more comfortable for the people. Ludhiana city of Punjab will soon have such a police station and will be the first Model Police Station in India. Punjab has been selected from all other states of India for the purpose of building a Model police Station.

The State government of Punjab will provide all the funds related to the land and development charges of Model Police Station in Ludhiana. Whereas, the construction cost of Rs. 2 crore will be provided by the central government as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bureau of Police Research and Development and Director General of Police, Punjab. Bureau of Police Research and Development will be responsible for the design of Model Police Station while Punjab government will look after the maintenance of Model Police Station in Ludhiana.

Features and Facilities Provided in ‘Model Police Station’, Ludhiana:

1. Total strength of 150 police personnel will be there in Model police Station.

2. Station House Officer (SHO) and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) will be provided with separate rooms along with reception and seating arrangement for visitors.

3. For the online registration of complaints separate computer room will be provided.

4. A control room, training room and barracks for cops.

5. Storage room for the illegal properties seized.

6. Physically challenged people visiting the Model Police Station will have a rest room.

7. For children and women there will be a distress room.

8. Library and gymnasium will also be there.

‘Model Police Station’ in Ludhiana is really going to be a role model for other police stations throughout the nation. Hope such initiatives are taken by government in every state in the coming years.
