Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games- State Level Games Organized by Punjab!

In order to boost sports activities and efficient sports-persons in Punjab, the government has decided to organize state level games in Punjab under the name Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games. The games will commemorate the legend freedom fighter from the land of Punjab, ‘Sardar Bhagat Singh’. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Sports Minister of Punjab considered this upcoming Games as biggest sports competition in the state. Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games will start from Decemebr 4th, 2010 at Ludhiana and will continue for 8 days. The closing ceremony of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games will take place at Jalandhar on 12th December, 2010.

The basic motive of the Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games is to provide a good platform for the sportspersons to compete under various disciplines and prepare them for various national and international events like Commonwealth games, Asian Games, Olympics etc. Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games will have 10 sports events viz: Hockey, Kabaddi, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Shooting, Athletics, Wrestling, Boxing and Weight-Lifting. The sports-persons will be ranked from 1 to 100 according to their performance in the games. Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games are going to be the biggest sports events of the state giving huge sum of prize money. As there are 10 sports disciplines included in Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games, Rs. 21 lakhs of prize money will be awarded in each sports discipline.

Key Highlights of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games:

1. Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games will begin on 4th December, 2010 and end on 12th December, 2010. Ludhiana will serve as the venue for opening ceremony and Jalandhar will serve as venue for closing ceremony of Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games.

2. There will be 10 sports disciplines in Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games which will be organized in different venues. Ludhiana will host sports disciplines like Athletics, Basketball, Football and Kabaddi. SAS Nagar, Mohali will host shooting events. Patiala will host sports disciplines like Volleyball, Wrestling and Weightlifting. However, Jalandhar will witness the hockey events.

3. Since, Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games is going to be one of the biggest sports events of State, huge prize money will be associated with it. Rs. 21 lakhs will be awarded in each discipline taking the total prize money to Rs. 2.1 crore.

(a) Gold Medal Winner: Rs. 9 lakhs.
(b) Silver Medal Winner: Rs. 7 lakhs.
(c) Bronze Medal Winner: Rs. 5 lakhs.

4. Opening ceremony, closing ceremony and all the matches from semi-finals onwards will be telecast live.
