OFSAA Metadata Components and their Hierarchal Architecture

Business Metadata Management in OFSAA:

Metadata is basically data about the data or information about the data. We need to know the data about the data so that we are able to use that data. Metadata provides data as well as business definitions of the data. It is repository of tables and columns and their mappings in various data stores.

Major business metadata components of OFSAA are as follows:
1.       Run
2.       Process Tree
3.       Rule
4.       Business Processors
5.       Data Sets
6.       Hierarchies
Business Measures

Business Metadata Management is achieved in OFSAA with the Unified Metadata Manager tab.
Click on Unified Metadata Manager/Business Metadata Management

One can make use of metadata components in OFSAA after the data model is uploaded in the database. On the basis of this data model, the metadata definitions such as Business Measures, Business Processors, Data Sets, and Hierarchy etc. are defined.

1.       Business Measures: Business measure is nothing but an aggregation function on a column. A column value is retrieved for calculation in OFSAA using this metadata component i.e. Business Measure.

Create Business Measures using tabs: Unified Metadata Manager\Business Metadata Management\ Business Measures

2.       Business Processor: The actual computation process using multiple column values is achieved using Business Processors in OFSAA. Business Processors makes use of Business Measures along with the operators to define a calculation formula. The computed value achieved from the Business Processor is stored in a Target measure which can later be used for further calculations.

Create Business Processors using tabs: Unified Metadata Manager\Business Metadata Management\ Business Processors

3.       Data Sets: Data Set is a group of various tables that are linked by specifying a Join condition. Data Sets are required for the creation of Type 3 Rules, Business Processors, Functions

Create Data Sets using tabs: Unified Metadata Manager\Business Metadata Management\Data Sets

4.         Rule: The definition and maintenance of a transformation is achieved using Rules in OFSAA. The computation process is achieved by defining Rules. There are three types of Rules Type1, Type2 and Type3 Rules. For detailed information on Rules check: OFSAA Rules - Introduction and Classification

Create Rule using tabs: Designer\Rule

5.       Process Tree: A Process tree is simply a collection of Rules in that are processed in a particular sequence. Process tree consists of levels and members. Each level further forms a sub-process. A process tree consists of Type2 and Type3 Rules in its hierarchal structure.

Create Process Tree using tabs: Designer\Process

6.       Run: Run is the highest level in the hierarchy of OFSAA metadata components. Run in OFSAA is a combination of Process Tress.

Create Run using tabs: Designer\Run
