Debug asp.net website or Project using IIS(Internet Information Services)

Asp.net web application can be debugged using IIS by attaching to the w3wp.exe process. In this example we will see how we can debug website using iis with diagram.

Steps to Debug Asp.Net Website or Project using IIS:

Step 1: First browse the website from IIS as shown in the diagram:

Step 2: Apply breakpoint on the code as shown in the diagram below:

Step 3: Click on Tools in menu bar and then select the option Attach to Process as shown in the picture below:

Step 4: In Attach to Process dialog select the check box Show processes from all users and Show processes in all sessions if not already selected as shown in the diagram below:

Step 5: Select the process w3wp.exe process as shown in the diagram below:

Step 6: A dialog box will open then select the option Attach as shown below:

Now open the page in browser which you want to debug then the then break point will  be activated as shown in the diagram below:
